Summary of the Competition

Smart City Congress/EkoZakopane 2017 took place between the 26th and 28th of June 2017 in Zakopane which was organised by the users of Smart EcoSystem platform – a unique system for entities dealing with elaboration and implementation of innovative projects. Among the platform users are scientific-research institutions, self-governmental units, business environment institutions and enterprises which aim at implementing innovative technologies and building competitiveness of the Polish economy. All activities of the platform’s users are focused on implementing the Smart City idea by promoting sustainable development, modern urban space management and popularising the electromobility market.

The Congress’s programme abounded in numerous events of high professional level. Several panel discussions were broadcast online. The event was accompanied by a number of additional attractions promoting ecological lifestyle, traditions of the Podhale region and local folklore.

The Congress included parliamentarians, representatives of government administration, entrepreneurs, scientists and representatives of the local governments from Austria, Slovakia, Georgia, Ukraine, Hungary as well as MPs and diplomats. His Excellency Ziyad Raoof, the Representative of the Kurdistan Regional Government in Poland, was a special guest at the Forum.

The Smart City Congress and the 1st International Energy and Environment Forum – EkoZakopane 2017 were a joint initiative of many partners and the main promoters of the event were: Smart EcoSystem Platform, European Green Technology Alliance (EGTA), The European Centre of Support for Non-Governmental Initiatives, Emirates & Europe Business Development Cluster, Green Cars Cluster and Smart IT Cluster .

The Strategic Partner of the event was the National Center for Research and Development and the official media patronage was provided by Dziennik Gazeta Prawna daily newspaper – the publisher of  a supplement entitled “Innovation Leaders”.

During the Smart City Congress / EkoZakopane 2017, “Eko Janosik” Contest was resolved and the most ecological establishments and enterprises in the given region were awarded and the event was combined with the semi-final of the national competition, “Innovation Leaders 2017”. The Competition’s Jury selected winners in seven categories who are to take part in the finals scheduled for October 24, 2017 at InterContinental Hotel in Warsaw, Poland, under the second edition of “Emirates & Europe Economic Forum – Innovation as a chance for economic development”.

Smart City Congress / EkoZakopane 2017 is an initiative of the promoters for building a  cooperation platform between the self-governments’ representatives of all levels as well as  science and business in terms of modern Smart City solutions’ promoting, innovative technologies and start-ups which serve environmental protection and the development of the key economy sectors, including low-emission transport and innovative technologies in the country. The Green Trader Multipartner Platform (www.trader.smartpl.eu ) – an ERP-class platform for project management and local governments keen to cooperate for achieving the set goals during Smart City Congress / EkoZakopane 2017-  is to support and coordinate further activities.
