Smart City Poznań

On October 14, 2014, at the International Poznań Fairgrounds, the third conference in the “Smart City Congress” series took place, showcasing innovative systems and solutions aimed at creating an intelligent metropolis.

Juan Davi Ferrer, President of the Smart IT Cluster, was the first to speak shortly after the conference’s opening ceremony. He elucidated the Cluster’s concept and presented a range of solutions designed to help local authorities ensure order and safety for residents. These solutions included Intelligent Monitoring, Vehicle Management Systems, and ePolice initiatives. Additionally, projects such as the Citizens Communication Center and Intelligent Public Office were introduced, promising to enhance communication between government and residents while reducing queues at municipal offices.

Engineer Marcin Dolata presented the EasySolar application, currently the most advanced project tool accessible via smartphone. It allows for the optimal selection of photovoltaic panels in terms of power and dimensions, leveraging advanced algorithms developed by engineers from leading European technical universities, with extensive product databases from PHOTON and solar irradiance data from NASA.

Transitioning from topics on intelligent cities and green energy, organizers moved to another pressing issue: ecological transportation, specifically electric vehicles (EVs) and their charging infrastructure. The conference featured the Green Taxi, an electrically converted vehicle resulting from collaboration between Smart IT Clusters and Green Cars. With increasing projects like these, questions arise about the range capabilities of EVs. Konrad Hamera, representing Green Point, discussed EV charging systems, including a proprietary solution for automated fee collection using integrated city cards. Such innovations aim to introduce emission-free vehicles to the Polish market, addressing concerns about the current range limitations of EVs on a single charge.

Staying within the theme of green transport, Hamera also presented ASR (Automatic Rescue System), encompassing accident detection systems, fleet vehicle monitoring, and e-call services—a rapid European accident notification system—alongside a console for communication with dispatchers or assistance services.

Adam Kaput concluded the conference by encouraging participation in the GeoSmartCity project, which aims to realize the concept of a “Smart City” through an open, cross-platform tool capable of publishing geographic information openly and providing specialized services based on open standards.
